Families are given a personal case worker to help assess the causes and symptoms of the current issues. From here, a personalized action plan is mapped out in order for the family members to learn how to achieve their goals. Along the way, the family is not only connected to The Salvation Army's resources, but also to other outside resources that benefit their personal growth and support.

Provides website to help those with autism understand and advocate for their own physical and mental health. The website teaches, models, and gives those with autism opportunities to practice skills prior to healthcare visits so they are prepared to answer wellness check questions. Additionally, community providers, healthcare professionals, and caregivers will also find resources for their role in helping the autism community.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) offers free tax preparation and electronic filing for low- to moderate-income Iowans, starting February 2026. Provides a safe place for at-risk and homeless youth (ages 16-24) in the Polk County area to connect with services. Services include street outreach, drop-in services, daily meals, emergency beds, an art studio, a computer lab, and mental health counseling options. 

The center also offers connections to additional YSS supportive housing programs, such as Lighthouses, Transitional Living Program, and Rapid Re-housing. Supportive services may include educational opportunities, life skills training, financial planning, and counseling to help youth and young adults, including single mothers and their infants, achieve self-sufficiency and progress toward their goals.

Provides in-home support to families receiving FIP (welfare) assistance, helping the family to increase stability and become economically self-sufficient. Family development specialists meet one-on-one with families in regular home visits. Families might pursue resources needed for stability, like emergency food, energy assistance, and stable housing. 

All DHS offices across the state are open for people to use as a warm/cool place to stay during office hours.
