Offers a centralized service facility for children ages 0-18 with behavioral, developmental, social or emotional needs. Services include social and behavioral diagnostics/assessment, social skills group, family groups, education and training services. 

The Safety and Labor Standards division assists employers and workers with labor standards compliance issues, including resolution of wage complaints and child labor complaints.

Also administers the Contractor Registration Act, the Employee Classification Act, the Farm Labor Contractors Act and the Meatpacking Industry Workers Bill of Rights.

At the request of private employers, the agency conducts no-cost safety and health consultations to assist businesses in identifying potential hazards.

Offers peer support to people with mental health challenges. The support is given by trained staff who have their own experience with mental health and understand what it's like.

Provides refugee services that include:

• Connecting senior refugees to community resources

• Culturally and linguistically appropriate mental health services, available statewide by telehealth

• English classes

• Community gardening and small farm business programs

• Child care business training in Polk, Buena Vista, Black Hawk, Scott, and Woodbury counties

• An Individual Development Account program with financial education and matched savings, available statewide

• Direct and financial help to foreign-born victims of human trafficking statewide

• Support for unaccompanied children and youth from Central America who want to connect with family in Iowa, available statewide

• Business training and technical help in central Iowa

• A Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program

Offers a HUD-sponsored apartment building that addresses the special supports necessary for individuals with chronic mental illness to live independently. The apartments have a live-in manager and professional staff to address living skills, case management, and counseling.

Provides holiday meals.

Easter Provides a ham. Distribution day varies, call to confirm.

Thanksgiving provides turkeys or ham for Thanksgiving as part of regular food distribution the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

Christmas Provides ham as part of regular food distribution the Saturday before Christmas.

Provides a food pantry for those in need. USDA government commodities are distributed along with purchased and donated food, including weekly donations of perishable items from Trader Joes.

The Financial Support office assists Johnson County residents with up to $100.00 towards a prescription medication. 

Assistance for eligible individuals to get ID and birth certificates.

Obtaining the required documents for a birth certificate (and other forms of identification) can take several weeks to months.

Provides in office or telehealth therapy at all locations. Can also provide in-home or in-office behavioral health services for children, ages 4-18 and their families. BHIS services can also be done via telehealth as well. 

Grants state and federal funds to the eight Area Agencies on Aging in Nebraska to support local programs and services. Grants state funds for Senior Volunteer Program. Grants federal funds to Senior Community Services Employment Program. Grants state funds to Aging and Disability Resource Centers.
