Waubonsee Community College - Aurora Downtown
Offers English Language Acquisition (ELA) which is a language program designed for adults, 16 years and older, whose native language is not English. The ELA program helps students improve reading, writing, speaking and listening skills from literacy to the advanced level. Students improve English skills while also learning about U.S. culture. There is no tuition fee for these classes.
Before entry into the program, a student must obtain an English skills assessment for accurate placement. Placement testing is done weekly throughout most of the year.
Stepping Stone Family Services
Offers outpatient mental health therapy, providing individuals with the opportunity to discuss conditions such as depression, anxiety, relationship conflicts, and career frustrations with trained professionals. Therapy sessions help clients express feelings, understand patterns of thinking, gain perspective on past events and current relationships, set goals, and clarify future aspirations. Services are available at the West Des Moines office and include school-based therapy for all schools in Urbandale, as well as Perkins and Carver Elementary Schools in the Des Moines school district.
Also provides home-based mental health services for individuals unable to leave their homes due to severe mental or emotional disturbances, disabling medical conditions, or crises that place children at imminent risk of hospitalization or residential placement.
And offers home-based parenting education programs to support parents in developing effective parenting skills, addressing challenges with difficult children, promoting school-readiness activities, and resolving issues in the family setting, particularly for families at risk of child abuse, neglect, or out-of-home placement. Services are open to anyone.

Off-site/out-of-office services provided include trauma-informed services, counseling/therapy, legal advocacy, medical advocacy, social services and basic needs advocacy/case management, safety planning, 24/7 crisis helplines, and 24/7 crisis intervention at hospitals/law enforcement. Service plans based upon services client wants to receive.

Furniture donations can only be accepted at the Donation Center on the main campus by the Airport, on the East side of the Timberlake Outreach Center.
(Due to the increased cost of gasoline, staffing, and fleet maintenance, Open Door Mission is not able to offer pick-up service.)
