Provides assistance to individuals and families who are facing a crisis situation with food and/or shelter. Homeless prevention services can assist families who are facing eviction or utility disconnection in preventing their family from becoming homeless. Crisis funds may be available for one month’s rent, utilities, or groceries for a short period of time. This assistance is intended for individuals and families who need temporary, one-time assistance to resolve an emergency situation.

Schuyler County Community Action Outreach Office
Provides a voucher program to assist the homeless population to find shelter. This program is available in Adams, Brown, Pike and Schuyler counties. In Adams County, clients must have a referral from the Salvation Army. Participants are required to do job searches each week and participate in weekly Job Clubs with the goal to transition into permanent housing.

Each Habitat home is built in partnership with homeowner families, sponsors, and volunteers and sold to the partner family, who repays an affordable mortgage over 20 years. Homeowners attend a series of workshops on financial literacy and home maintenance so they are well-prepared for home ownership.
Mental Health and Disability Services of East Central Region - Buchanan County
Offers a Disability Access Point, or “DAP”, which help people with disabilities, their families, and their caregivers find the services and support they need—both short-term and long-term. DAPs help by giving information, making plans, making referrals and checking in to make sure people are getting the right support to live healthy, independent lives.
Can help with the following services:
- Information and Assistance - based on presented and identified needs, provides information about programs and services, and helps to connect individuals to service providers in their communities.
- Options Counseling - provides guidance to individuals so that they may make informed choices about supports and services, typically over a period of 90 days or less. This includes benefits screening and application assistance for programs and services and follow-ups to make sure supports and decisions are assisting the individual.
- Financial Assistance - provides gap funding and service coordination for programs and services that support individuals and their caregivers so that individuals may live in the home and community of their choice. Help with short-term services and long term services are also provided.
Short-term supports (time-limited) include adaptive and assistive equipment, home and vehicle modifications, peer and parent support services, transportation assistance, and other basic needs (not covered by insurance).
Long-term services and supports includes adult day programs, consumer-directed attendant care (CDAC) (non-skilled and skilled), day habilitation, employment like job skills training, prevocational services, and supported employment, intensive residential services (IRSH), personal response systems, respite services like in-home, in-facility, and day camps, supported community living (SCL) and home-based habilitation (hourly), and residential living settings.
Boys Town - South Omaha
Strength-based, in-home and community-based program designed to reduce youth and family risk that contributes to delinquent behavior while increasing youth and family protective factors. Family Consultants work with families to enhance and improve youth and family functioning in the home and community while preventing the need for youth to be detained or referred to an out-of-home setting. Each family has an individualized service plan developed to include youth and family-driven goals that address the emotional, behavioral, social and educational needs of at-risk youth and families. The services provided strongly focus on family engagement, initial and ongoing assessment, individualized interventions, and case closure planning for long-term outcomes.
This program integrates parent training and intensive in-home family work and case management. Boys Town Family Consultants are available 24/7 and work with families in their homes, communities and schools. This service is designed to implement focused interventions and cognitive behavioral techniques to enhance youth skill development, such as social skills, problem-solving skills, and anger management skills. Family Consultants work with parents on evidence-based, behaviorally-oriented parenting practices to improve family functioning and stability within the home. Services provided to the youth and family include: teaching cognitive behavioral techniques and skills that promote self-sufficiency, developing problem-solving skills, practicing new skills and developing skills to help open lines of communication within the family and its support network (schools, relatives, friends).

Dixon PADS Shelter
Christian-based shelter that provides temporary housing for single men, single women, and families. Men are in separate residences from women and children even if the rest of their family is in the women's shelter. Residents are able to stay at the shelter for a maximum of 6 months as they work on a transition plan for self-sufficiency. The shelter provides referrals and support to residents as they work on their transition plan.
Provides shelter, services, clothing, food and daily needs for the residents. All prospective occupants must fill out an application and go through an interview process with a board member before entering the home. Open to families with children of all ages.

Stopping Woman Abuse Now (SWAN) - Olney
Provides for women and families experiencing homelessness dormitory-styled rooms with bunk beds, so they are intended to be a shared space, a common dining area, living room, and outdoor areas for recreation. A full-time cook is on staff to provide two hot meals each day, and breakfast is a serve-yourself cold meal. Clients can stay at our shelter for up to 45 days.
