Head Start and Early Head Start are comprehensive child development programs that serve children from birth to age five, pregnant women and their families. The programs are child-focused and have the overall goal of increasing the school readiness of young children in low-income families.

Both programs provide a range of individualized services in the areas of education, medical, dental and mental health, nutrition and social service to children and their families. Parent involvement is encouraged and support is offered for children with disabilities.

Hope Ministries Thrift has two locations that accept donations of clothing, household goods, furniture and more. Donations can be dropped off from 10 am-6 pm Donation pick-ups are available, call for more details. Thrift Store Locations: 4640 Merle Hay Road, Urbandale and 500 E. Army Post Road, Des Moines.

Financial assistance available (when funding is available) to income eligible applicants who have suffered a loss of income through an event that was out of their control. These funds can be used to pay one month rent (no deposits) for those in danger of being evicted from their home due to nonpayment of rent. Assistance is also available to help with water bills.

Provides the community with acute inpatient care, skilled nursing care and a special care unit. Inpatient, outpatient and same day surgery care available.

Provides assistance to out-of-school youth ages 16-24 who are overcoming barriers to employment. Participants engage in academic programming to obtain a high school diploma or equivalency certificate and skill-building activities in construction or urban agriculture, such as building or rehabilitating housing for low-income families. Leadership development includes classes, activities, and organizational leadership roles.

The program provides transportation expense assistance, such as bus tokens or other financial support, for those who have no means of transportation. Additionally, assistance is available for individuals who have experienced discrimination or unfair treatment based on age, gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or marital status. Services target youth facing low income, homelessness, or involvement with the judicial system.

Provides a one-time payment option to assist with water and wastewater bills.

Offers gas vouchers for individuals with medical appointments or job interviews. 

Provides a school for children ages 2 to 12 that follows Montessori educational principles, offering child-directed, individualized, hands-on learning within a specially prepared environment. The school operates as an educational institution that supports formal education through a graded system, focusing on foundational skills such as reading, writing, and mathematics, and expanding to a broader curriculum designed to meet developmental needs and prepare students for future academic or employment opportunities.

Community groups, agencies, families, and individuals may request educational information, use mental health resources, and seek service consultation to aid in planning, designing, coordinating, or improving programs and services.  These help prevent the need for more intensive services, increase awareness for and the advantages of early intervention, and increase the quality of mental health in the community.

Provides delivery of hot meals to home-bound seniors. Additional frozen meals available to be used for dinner and on weekends.

Provides garbage and recycling services for Marshalltown residents are contracted through private refuse collection services. The city requires a license for garbage haulers and a current list of licensed haulers can be found on the website.
