The program aims to address the needs of eligible Veterans and their families to reduce suicide risk and improve mental health status and well-being by providing wrap-around, nonclinical suicide prevention support services to eligible households.

The Groundswell Cafe is a pay-it-forward eatery whose mission is to provide a place where everyone has access to fresh, healthy food, regardless of their ability to pay. Offers a simple, healthy menu featuring soups, salads, and sandwiches, with as much of the food as possible supplied by what is grown on the Cultivate Hope Urban Farm and the on-site hydroponic system. At this cafe, guests can round up their bill or make a donation to help pay for a meal for someone who can’t afford it. Those who can’t afford to pay can order and enjoy fresh healthy food at no cost.

Offers a work training program for low-income job seekers aged 55 and over, designed to support their transition to permanent employment. The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) offers job counseling, job training, and support services, including opportunities to develop computer literacy skills such as using computers, software applications, and related technology. Participants typically work 20 hours per week at the current minimum wage, gaining valuable work experience and enhancing their capabilities. The program aims to prepare individuals for permanent employment with their assigned host agency or in the private sector. Funded by annual grants from the U.S. Department of Labor, SCSEP ensures participants receive comprehensive training to meet modern workplace demands.

Complete hot meal consisting of meat, starch, vegetable, salad, dessert, and sometimes extra small-packaged items to go. Coordinates special holiday meals throughout the year.

Provides day services for individuals with developmental disabilities. Services include social, vocational, personal, and academic skills trainings for adults with intellectual developmental disabilities. Services occur both onsite and, in the community, and community employment is also an option for eligible individuals. 

Offers Child Care Expense Assistance through the Iowa Department of Human services is available to the children of income-eligible parents who are absent for a portion of the day due to employment or participation in academic or vocational training or PROMISE JOBS activities. Assistance may also be available for a limited period of time to the children of a parent looking for employment. APPLY TO BE A REGISTERED CHILD CARE PROVIDER. Provides the Unemployment Compensation Insurance programs and assists with questions regarding and applications for unemployment compensation, and provide resources for those seeking employment and retraining information.

Provides information and assistance to grandparents (or other relatives) raising grandchildren.

Services may include

- Needs assessment for both the grandparent and the grandchild(ren).

• Assistance in accessing services needed by the grandparent for the child.
• Include everything from pharmaceutical assistance to school clothes and supplies.
• Referrals are made for the child to agencies providing services that may be needed by the child (e.g., tutoring, counseling, etc.).

When funds are available, one-time financial assistance is available for emergency situations for medications, housing, food, utilities, etc.

LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) assists low-income homeowners and renters pay for a portion of their primary heating costs for the winter heating season. Assistance is based on household income, size, type of fuel and type of housing. The application period is from October 1-April 30 for elderly and disabled households and November 1-April 30th for the rest of the households. Persons applying must meet 200% poverty guidelines.

LIHEAP also offers a crisis program that may be able to assist homeowners who are with no heat or limited heat during the off months of the LIHEAP program (May-September). The furnace component for crisis runs October 1-April 30th.

Offers maternity clothing to pregnant women. 

Provides Medicaid and Medicare-certified low cost clinics offering "one stop shop" for general health care needs.

Assists veterans, their spouses, and dependents with applying for a wide range of benefits, including disability compensation, disability pension, widow/survivor benefits, education and vocational benefits, medical benefits, applications to the Iowa Veteran’s Home, and burial benefits such as burial in a national cemetery, headstones and markers, memorial certificates, burial flags, and funeral allowances for eligible deceased veterans and their dependents.
