The Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8) is designed to assist very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. Families who are issued a voucher locate a single family home, town home, or apartment, with the correct number of bedrooms. The voucher holder then enters into a lease with the private owner. The Housing Authority will also enter into an agreement with the private owner for the subsidy payment.

Services cover early education and childhood development, medical, dental and mental health, nutrition, and parent education.

Provides a resident who is starting a job and needing supplies before beginning employment. (ID, Uniform, Bus Tickets, etc.).

Provides assistance to seniors to help them remain in their own homes. Services include errand running and shopping, meal preparation and assistance, help with laundry and light housekeeping, personal grooming assistance, companionship, in-home support, and respite care.

Provides funding for needs that other programs do not cover such as clinical appointments, therapeutic programs and medications. This is a free program for Linn County children under the age of 21 who have needs related to a mental health diagnosis.

Provides a fitness center with strength and cardio equipment, a walking track, Hydro Worx treadmill pool, sauna, group fitness classes, personal training, and health coaching. 

Head Start gives children, ages 3 and 4, the opportunity to grow and learn in a high quality early childhood setting. Head Start offers half-day, full-day, and homebased options.

Community health care clinic. Some services may be referred to other providers or physicians.

Offers home nursing and home care aides who may assist with bathing, personal care, and some exercises.

Homemaker services including errands, laundry, light housekeeping, and meal preparation, and Rehabilitation Therapy including physical, speech, and occupational.

Offers public library services that loans books, books on tape/CD (including Spanish language & bilingual), movies (VHS & DVD), puppets, and story kits (educators). Preschool story hour. Public internet access and Wi-Fi.

​Provides counseling services for children, adolescents, and adults. Treatment interventions are offered in individual, family, or group settings, depending on the needs of the individual. Areas of intervention include generalized counseling, anxiety, depression, mental illness, physical abuse, sexual abuse, couple and marriage counseling, parenting issues, anger issues and domestic violence.

Offers boarding for companion animals at a reasonable cost.

Shelters pets when owners are in a homeless shelter or otherwise temporarily unable to care for them.

Pet food pantry for Douglas and Sarpy County Residents

Offers personal care services such as bathing, skin, hair and foot care. Can also assist with budgeting, teaching parenting skills to new parents, assistance with housekeeping, errands and meal preparation.
