Provides equitable access and opportunities for economic success for underserved clients. Programs include job readiness, assisting with job placement and developing skills to aid in job retention, ELL, citizenship, computer skills, resume writing, networking, cultural transition support groups and peer discussions, effective parenting, education and coaching to enhance and promote financial literacy and long-term self-sufficiency, and other skills necessary to compete in the modern workplace. The programs address the barriers impacting low income and refugee families and their ability to move along the self-sufficiency continuum. Barriers from employment discrimination, language barriers, poverty, family conflict, transportation, financial illiteracy, and much more. Programs and class offerings are designed to be flexible to fit individual needs, and include a “high touch” service model which is both culturally competent and language specific.

Provides a 24-week domestic abusers education program. -- For men in Waterloo, the intake/orientations are held the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month at 4 pm and the 3rd Friday of the month at 9 am. If the intake session falls on a holiday, it is held at the same time in the following week. Located at Waterloo Residential Correctional Facility.

Provides child passenger safety seat inspections, offering guidance on selecting appropriate car seats based on a child's height and weight, correct installation, and proper use. Also provides child passenger safety seats, including booster seats for older children.
Additionally, supports the health and development of infants and toddlers through well-baby care services, which may include health screenings and immunizations.

Call for (319) 364-9131 for assistance if unable to do this. Households with children ages newborn up to 14 (on 12/25) can sign up for toys and a ham. Households without children eligible for toys can sign up for a ham.

Sorenson CaptionCall is a provider of IP CTS which is a federal program supporting the requirement of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to allow individuals with hearing loss to use the phone in a manner that is functionally equivalent to a person without hearing loss. There is no cost for the CaptionCall phone or the captioning service.
