Offers MEDICAID (Medical Assistance) to people who are low income and aged (65 and older), disabled (including blindness), women needing treatment for cancer or pre-cancerous conditions of breast or cervix (who have been screened and diagnosed through the Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection program and who do not have credible health insurance coverage), children under 21 years of age, pregnant women, parents or other caretaker relatives of children under age 18 (or under age 19 if they are attending secondary school and are expected to graduate before age 19). DODGE CORRECTIONAL FACILITY (515-574-4700): A medium security men’s facility, emphasizing: academic and vocational education, psychological services and counseling, cognitive skills training, substance abuse program, reentry programs, anger management, parenting programs, family violence program, and MIFVPP IOWA CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION FOR WOMEN, MITCHELLVILLE (515-725-5042): Serves as the reception and classification center for all females entering the adult institutional corrections system. A medium security women's facility emphasizing academic and vocational education, prison industries, psychological counseling, cognitive skill training, substance abuse programs, violence prevention, pre-release program, reentry programs, anger management and parenting programs IOWA MEDICAL & CLASSIFICATION CENTER, CORALVILLE (319-626-2391): IMCC serves as the reception and classification center for all males 18 years of age and older entering the adult institutional corrections system. After extensive testing and assessment of risk, health and cognitive skills, they are then processed on to other facilities. A medium security general population unit is in operation at IMCC, as well as, a special needs unit with both medical and mental health beds. Offers all DHS offices across the state during open hours for people to use as a warm/cool place to stay.

Offers to provide, but are not limited to monitoring of mental health symptoms communication with other providers crisis intervention/developing crisis plans coordination and development of natural support systems transportation.

DCFS has the primary responsibility of protecting children and strengthening families through the investigation and intervention of suspected child abuse or neglect by parents and other caregivers.

DCFS links families with community services to address struggles families are having, offers preventative services to referred families in an attempt to keep family units together to address findings of abuse/neglect, and works with families who have children under the legal custody of DCFS while working to reunify families when possible or provide a permanent home for children.

As part of its duties, DCFS also licenses and monitors all Illinois child welfare agencies, child care agencies, domestic and international adoption providers, and group homes in the state.

Parent support and parenting education.

Provides community-based youth services. Services include a 24-hour crisis response for homeless, runaway, and "locked out" youth individuals ages 11-17. Home-based family counseling, assistance in accessing community resources, anger management and life skills support groups is provided as a component of services. 

Offers primary care including family medicine, internal medicine, infectious disease management, pediatric care, OB/GYN services, prenatal and postpartum coordinated care with labor and delivery, immunizations and preventative screenings, and chronic care.

Provides supported community living (SCL) for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Daily supervision is offered as needed by DSPs. Individuals served have an Individual Service Plan. 

Reimburses for funeral and burial expenses when a person's resources and all other sources of payment are less than the DHS standard payment rates. The maximum amount that DHS will pay is $1370 for a funeral and $686 for a cremation/burial.

Provides year-round retreat programs for schools, youth, families and other groups for leadership team building recreation and other outdoor programs and getaways. 

Provides medical care and education services for women. Services include mammograms, breast exams, pelvic exams, pap tests and education on self-breast examinations to eligible women. Treatment options are available if screening results in diagnosis. If qualified, women who have already been diagnosed with cancer may receive treatment.

Offers to match the caller’s legal problem with available resources, such as advice, extended representation, or referral. For most low-income applicants. Callers are screened for eligibility, and a determination is made whether eligible callers have a legal problem that falls within the priorities. If the caller’s legal problem is eligible for review for extended services, the caller is referred to one of our five regional offices. If the callers are not eligible for referral to a regional office, attorneys provide the caller with immediate advice or quick access to other information and resources.

Provides housing, meals, clothing, case management, life skills, health care and mental health care referrals, substance abuse treatment referrals, financial and job skills coaching, socialization and recreation opportunities to assist men experiencing homelessness to overcome the barriers that keep them from becoming housed and self-sufficient.

Cold Weather Shelter "Cold Cots": During the winter months when the temperatures are severely cold, the cold weather shelter opens expanding the 30 bed men's shelter to handle an additional 20 men providing them with a cot, a meal, and access to showers while space is available.
