Bureau of Refugee Services
Offers, as resources allow, to help refugees and asylees reach economic self-sufficiency and to them with any problems, interests and concerns they may have. The Bureau of Refugee Services works to serve as a central clearinghouse in order to refer refugees and asylees to any resource necessary and available to them. The Bureau is the service agency for all refugees enrolled in FIP, the state welfare reform program. Now offering a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) program. This program will help participants prepare for the class, enroll into the DMACC CDL program at no cost, and obtain a job after completion. Participants will also qualify for “Jump Start” training specially designed to help English Language Learners.

West Central Community Action - Cass County
Clothing provided to those in need at no cost.
Operation Threshold - Grundy
Provides energy assistance to those in need. Assists with LIHEAP, or the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, applications. LIHEAP supplements the high cost of winter heating for low-income households, provides emergency furnace repairs or replacement for income-qualifying homeowners. Households with income levels at or below 200% of the poverty level are eligible for benefits. Applicants are served on a first-come first serve basis. The application period is from October 1-April 30 for elderly and disabled households and November 1-April 30th for the rest of the households. Bring completed application, along with any other required documents, to your local Operation Threshold office. Applications can be picked up at the office.

HACAP - Waterfront
Offers to assist households with window air conditioners (renters or homeowners) and also do some repairs to central air conditioners (homeowners). Must meet income guidelines for the program and have an application completed. Must have a medical need to be eligible for the program. Program runs May through September.

Offers support to hospital patients and/or families visiting patients receiving medical care or receiving services from Mary Lanning Memorial Healthcare. Guest rooms are allocated on a space-available basis with reservations accepted up to two weeks in advance. Assignment of rooms is first-come, first-serve and available 365 days a year.

Services vary, but may include insulation, furnace work, and air sealing.
Northeast Nebraska Area Agency on Aging and Aging and Disability Resource Center
Assists Nebraskans who are 60 years and over or have a disability and/or their representatives in accessing services and supports to allow the person to live as independently as possible in the setting of their choice. ADRC staff are available by phone or in person to assist in accessing resources based on the person’s needs and preferences. This may include providing information and referrals for services such as housing, personal care, transportation, food and nutrition, public benefits, therapies, employment, and Options Counseling.
