Landfill Division has responsibilities for both active and closed landfills; Douglas County contracts with Waste Management for the general operation and maintenance of the active Pheasant Point solid waste landfill site at Highway 36 and 216th Street.

Landscape maintenance and snow removal for various county offices.

Noxious and nuisance weed monitoring and control as required. Provides field inspection services based on the complaints received and to areas that have a known history of noxious weed problems. Random inspections are also conducted throughout the County’s area of responsibility.

Samples residential private water wells for coliform and nitrates upon request of the property owner and refers clients to private labs for more complex well testing. Conducts on-site evaluations of private sewage systems for homeowners. Also licenses private sewage system installers and permits the installation and modification of private sewage systems.

Offers testing of private wells, well and septic system inspection, radon testing and correction advice. Also provides swimming pool, spa, tanning bed, and tattoo parlor inspections. Complaints: Receives and investigates complaints dumping and other garbage issues, illegal burning, and animal bites. When possible, works with tenant complaints regarding rental home conditions.

Issues permits for the following, signs, billboards; construction of buildings, repairs, additions, demolitions, move houses, street occupancy, zoning services, tower registration, family daycare registration, licenses for electrical, heating, air conditioning, and plumbing.

• Septic and water well inspections and permitting
• Tanning facility inspections
• Tattoo and body art facility inspections
