The General Assistance Program is primarily for those adults without minor children, without adequate income, and ineligible for any other monetary forms of assistance.
Cheney's Grove Township
Provides a monthly income for individuals to be used to pay for food, rent/shelter, utilities, clothing, medical care, or other items considered essential.

Assists families with a portion of heating utilities, burials, medical expenses, rent or mortgage payments, bus tokens, cab fare, or a one way bus ticket. Must meet qualification guidelines.
Bremer County Community Based Services Office
Provides one-time annual assistance for basic needs, including rent or lot rent, utilities such as gas, electric, and water, and food vouchers. The program does not serve individuals receiving FIP, living in subsidized housing, or currently enrolled as students.
Additionally, the program may offer support for prescription medication needs, such as access to low-cost or hard-to-obtain medications and assistance with medication adherence.
Financial assistance for burial or cremation expenses may also be available to help families cover funeral, cremation, or interment costs.

- Emergency Assistance: Financial assistance to alleviate a life-threatening circumstance or meet an expense which jeopardizes employment. Individuals can receive Emergency Assistance only once a year. Applicants may be eligible for rent and utility assistance though this program.
- General Assistance: Financial assistance to meet basic needs. Provided every month but subject to work requirements.

Provides emergency financial assistance to low income individuals, without minor (age 17 and below) dependents, and who do not qualify for other financial aid programs (such as Social Security or TANF).
Decatur Township
Offers general assistance monthly grant ($200) for those who qualify that can be used for any combination of the following, rent, utility bill (power, water, garbage), transportation (Decatur Public Transit), Kroger (personal needs).
Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services - Grand Island South Pine
Provides medical and financial assistance including: rent and rental deposit assistance, assisted living financial assistance with a written statement from physician indicating client is in need of that level of care. Medical care provided through the Primary Health Care Clinic or authorized by clinic physician. Bus passes at a reduced rate and personal hygiene vouchers. Burial (cremation) expenses.
Rock Island Township
Administers the General Assistance Program. Eligible clients may receive a maximum of $435 per month towards rent, utilities (MidAmerican or City of Rock Island), personal needs and food. Vouchers are issued to clients and checks are mailed to the rental property owners. All rental properties must be registered with the City of Rock Island.
Typically, clients are single, unemployed or applying for Social Security Disability (SSDI) and have no other means of financial self-support. The application process can take up to 30 days.
In February or March, the Township usually receives a grant for help to families by paying one month’s rent or mortgage. The maximum grant is $450.

Muscatine County Community Services
General Assistance provides financial support to Muscatine County income eligible residents in emergency situations. Trust Services provides payee support to persons determined by the Social Security Administration to need assistance in managing their benefits.
