Polk County Department of Community, Family and Youth Services

A division of the Polk County Department of Community, Family and Youth Services that provides assistance to victims of crimes and includes the following programs: Violent/Personal Crime Assistance Program; Rape/Sexual Assault Care Center; Child Sexual Abuse Resource Coalition (C-SARC); Intra-Family Sexual Abuse Program (IFSAP) and Volunteer Program. SART - Mid-Iowa Sexual Assault Response Team - assists in sexual assault cases to aid the victim. The purpose of SART is to provide quality, compassionate and consistent care to victims of sexual assault. Free service. COPING AFTER SUICIDE support group for families and/or friends of suicide victims FREE COUNSELING and advocacy services for anyone affected by a violent crime or sexual assault (children and adults). CASE COORDIANTION provided for Child Sexual Abuse Resource Coalition (C-SARC) and Intra-Family Sexual Abuse Program (IFSAP) cases. Volunteers and interns are trained to assist victims by providing crisis intervention, court advocacy, phone counseling and support group facilitation. VIOLENT CRIME ASSISTANCE PROGRAM provides crisis intervention for victims, witnesses and their families in cases who have suffered emotional or physical trauma resulting from violent crimes. Purpose is to assist the victims and their families through support, counseling, advocacy, and agency liaison; as well as assisting the criminal justice system by helping the victim to become a good witness. Special services available to families of homicide victims. TEEN SEXUAL ASSAULT GROUP / SIG-NA is a group for teen sexual assault at various high schools, on various days and times. Victim Assistance Division

Pays for the cost of a forensic medical examination for victims of sexual assault and follow up visits for the screening and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases. The victim is not responsible for emergency room visit, doctor's fees, labs or medications associated with the sexual assault. Requires itemized statement, diagnosis code, patient name and date of birth.

ACCESS (Assault Care Center Extending Shelter and Support) - Story

Provides free and confidential support to victims of domestic abuse, sexual abuse, and homicide or other violent crimes. Advocates meet with clients where the client is in Boone, Greene, Marshall, Story, and Tama counties. A 24-hour crisis hotline and shelter for victims of domestic violence are also available.  Housing Access offers a multitude of services and programs to assist survivors in gaining permanent housing.

Faith Regional Health Services Child Advocacy Center

Safe place for children to be interviewed by a forensic interviewer and receive forensic medical exams. Referrals to mental health services and support groups and following the case through the legal system. Community educational presentations. Assist parents in reporting abuse or following up on reports already made. Hair testing and medical exams to determine if a child has been exposed to illegal drug, gather evidence, and access safety plan.
