Peer Advocates are volunteers aged 60 and older who provide assistance to seniors, also aged 60 and older, with a variety of needs, concerns, and questions. Services include emotional support and companionship, assistance with the Rent Reimbursement program through DHHS by helping with online or paper form applications (a one-time annual program for eligible individuals), and guidance through the SHIIP program, which includes drug plan, Medicare Advantage, or supplemental plan comparisons, as well as education for new Medicare enrollees.

Can also offer information and counseling on long-term care insurance, helping individuals evaluate benefit plans, select suitable policies, or explore alternatives. While not directly providing meals, they can connect seniors to resources like home-delivered meal programs for those who face challenges in meal preparation or access. Peer Advocates also play a role in senior advocacy, supporting efforts to protect and promote the rights and interests of older adults.

Provides comprehensive insurance counseling for Medicare or Medicaid eligible beneficiaries and their caregivers who may be new to or have questions about Medicare and Medicaid. Can also provide information and guidance to those who need assistance with claims and appeals, choosing appropriate health insurance coverage, subsidies or Medicaid to help afford Medicare premiums and copay costs.

Provides free health coverage enrollment assistance to people who are uninsured. Certified Navigators help consumers enroll in qualified health plans through the Health Insurance Marketplace or, if eligible, Medicaid. Navigators help determine eligibility for health coverage and financial assistance for health coverage. 

Offers Certified Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP) counselors who are available by appointment to assist with Medicare D, BEAM (State of Illinois license discount application), Low Income Subsidy application, Medicare Savings Plan application, and various other applications.

Provides health care coverage for uninsured children under the age of 19 who meet income guidelines. Once the child is enrolled coverage lasts for 12 months and must be renewed every year. MCPH is available for assistance with completing and application or a renewal. Depending on the size of the family Hawk-I is from free to no more than $20.00 per month. Certified Application Counselors help clients find healthcare coverage that fits their needs.

Provides information, counseling, and assistance to Medicare recipients living in Pella and surrounding areas. Trained  staff and volunteers offer one-on-one guidance about Medicare, medicine, and other insurance options tailored to individual circumstances. Services include counseling on long-term care insurance, helping individuals evaluate benefit plans, select policies, or explore alternatives based on their needs. 

Additionally, the program provides Medicaid information and counseling, offering guidance on eligibility requirements, application processes, benefits, managed care options, and the connections between Medicaid and Medicare. Support may include enrollment assistance and referrals to providers who accept State Medicaid health insurance. Free "Welcome to Medicare" seminars are also available, typically held in May and September.
