Can grant medical licensure to physicians (M.D./D.O.), acupuncturists and genetic counselors. The board regulates the practice of medicine and surgery, acupuncture and genetic counseling. The board has significant authority over licensees, establishing regulations by proposing legislation or adopting administrative rules. Correspondingly, the board is charged with enforcing these rules and laws to protect the public from licensees who do not practice medicine, acupuncture and genetic counseling within prevailing and acceptable standards of the practices of medicine and acupuncture. The board also issues cease and desist notices to persons who practice medicine and/or acupuncture and genetic counseling without a board-issued license.
